I had no idea where my lost super was or the names of the funds. I just new it was scattered everywhere and I should definitely have more than $3,000 in my super. Australian Super Finder found all 7 of my funds and now my balance is almost $50,000. Thank you so much for getting my super back on track. ? Leonie, Thomastown VIC

Drawing Down to Your Superannuation Options

There are minimum amounts you must take in a financial year, and it is based on your age so you can see that someone under the age of 65 will have to take 4% of their account balance if between 1st of July and 30 of June.

As you age, these limits will also increase. It is one of the requirements although there is a trade-off wherein you do have tax-free earnings although you must take some of that money out of your pension.

Different Choices Available in Superannuation

1. Managed Options. Under managed options you will have: • Diversified Shares
• Growth
• MySuper Balanced (Default)
• Socially Responsible Balanced
• Conservative Balanced
• Conservative

If you have an elected investment choice, then you will be in the MySuper Balanced Option.
2. Build your options
• Australian Shares
• International Shares
• Diversified Property
• Diversified Fixed Interest
• Cash

The "build your options" is for those who want to take better control of their Super funding.

There are two main types of Investment Classes, and they include:
• Property
• Australian Shares
• International Shares
• Alternatives

If you think about the stock market thatís going up the first day and down in the next day, itís mainly because the market has a lot of volatility. When we're talking about volatility we're talking about risks. In the short-term, it's likely that you could have experienced a negative return on this type of asset class. But over the long term, as a general rule, growth investments tend to give you higher returns. So it's a classic trade-off.

To try and balance out some of that volatility, the Defensive Investment can be introduced. Itís like a ferries wheel in your investment term because it is very predictable. You'll know exactly what you are going to get.

• Cash
• Fixed Interest

You won't find many surprises in the Defensive Investment class but what you will get over a long-term period is that the return wonít be so big. It has a place in your investment portfolio, but you need to consider your options when choosing between the two investment classes.
